Okay, so I exist again! Man, I've just been way too busy to keep up with twitter, blogs, websites, etsy and DA, but I'm trying to mold myself into an organized human being, so hopefully I can stay on top of things.
I've been on DA since high school (well, the summer I graduated) and that is horrifyingly close to 10 years ago now. Through college this was a place I showed school assignments and developmental sketches, under a different username, and kept in touch with other artist friends. I still prefer this as an online hangout over facebook, because at least there's something more fun to talk about than what we had for breakfast: art! It is nice to be back.
This spring was crazy for me because I got my first book illustration gig from a major publisher--a young reader (level 4 yo!) edition of The Wizard of Oz for Penguin books! Last year I did the cover and chapter front pieces for a middle grade novel from a small publisher, but this was so much more work, and with a tight deadline--40 illustrations in full color! The style is a hybrid of my cutout/picture book style and my fantasy/steampunk illustration style, and I'll start posting other drawings in that vein soon. I'm working on a bunch of book dummies right now (about ghosts! and woodland creatures! and figures of speech!) and am also open to commissions in any of my styles, just ask!
My next convention will be Faerieworlds in Eugene, OR at the end of July, then Geek Girl Con in Seattle, WA around the 10th of August. Hope to see you around!
